Frequently Asked Questions
What are Panhellenic sororities/women’s fraternities?
Sororities/women’s fraternities are women’s organizations devoted to bettering themselves as well as the community. These traditional women’s organizations fall under a governing council referred to as “Panhellenic” or CPH for short. Each sorority/women’s fraternity has adopted a philanthropy and throughout the year, works to support their philanthropy through monetary donations, volunteering, and bringing awareness to the community. Most of our sororities/women’s fraternities have houses surrounding main campus. In order to maintain membership within a specific sorority/women’s fraternity, members are asked to pay dues to pay for badges, activities, and much more.
Which Panhellenic Organizations are at UC?
At the University of Cincinnati we are lucky to have 10 Panhellenic sororities/women’s fraternities on our campus.

What is the formal recruitment process like?
Panhellenic Council (CPH) sorority recruitment is a formal process that occurs over two weekends during September, and requires you to register online. When you register for recruitment, you are assigned a Recruitment Guide (also called a “Rho Gamma”). This Recruitment Guide guides you through the entire recruitment process from start to finish.
During the formal recruitment process, you meet nine of our Panhellenic sororities and learn about each chapter. Sorority recruitment is a “mutual selection process”: after each day of recruitment, you preference your favorite sororities and the sororities do the same for the women going through recruitment. Your preferences narrow down until the final day of recruitment, “Bid Day,” when it is revealed which sorority invites you to join. 99% of women going through recruitment are matched to a sorority and join.
Some sororities may continue to recruit informally during the rest of the year but this varies depending on the chapter. Your only guarantee to meet with every sorority is to participate in fall recruitment.
When is formal recruitment?
This year, formal recruitment will be held over the following two weekends:
-
Friday, September 18th – Sunday, September 20th
-
Friday, September 25th – Sunday, September 27th
Once you register, you will receive an email to complete your registration by paying the registration fee of $30. This is an important step as your registration will not be complete until the registration fee is paid.
How much does it cost to be in a sorority?
Dues for each individual chapters will vary. There is a night during the formal recruitment process where each individual chapter will have a finance presentation.
These are the ranges we have for dues:
-
New Member Dues: $550 - $1200
-
Active Member Dues: $330 - $800
For more detailed amounts for each chapter, view each chapter's financial information on their individual page.
